Oct 23rd Lunch: On The Border

It’s that time once again. Get together with other software developers and discuss Agile and Lean software practices or just what’s going on this weekend.

This week we’re going to try a new location for us: On The Border. It’s on Texas near University next to the shopping center with Barnes & Noble and Best Buy. We’ll be there at 11:30.

Code Dojo at Village Cafe 8/25

Folks,

Our next meeting is scheduled for 7:30pm Tuesday August 25th at Village Café (http://brazosvillagecafe.com/) in downtown Bryan.

Robert and I will be facilitating a Code Dojo (http://codingdojo.org)
session. We’ll kick off with a description of what that means,
followed by running a session. So bring your programming hats, but
don’t worry about whether you know the language or not. What language?
Exactly. Come and find out.

eXtreme Programming with and without Agile

Presentation for next week’s meeting: “eXtreme Programming with and without Agile”

Agile software development is a set of processes and practices for
managing software development, and is aimed at managers, and encourages
disciplined approach to project management.
eXtreme Programming (aka XP) is also a set of practices and processes,
but it is designed for the engineers, engineering teams, and encourages
discipline in building software. Both XP and Agile were designed with
the same goal in mind - to build quality software for ever-changing
requirements.

Unlike Agile, many XP practices do not require organizational or
management support. Every software craftsman can (and should) improve the quality of their
work by following eXtreme Programming.

A big thanks to Improving Enterprises for sponsoring pizza for this event.

Please come out and join us at the Bryan Library on July 28th at 7:30pm.

Succeeding Through Trust

Robert Stackhouse has been a student of leadership in its various forms for over 15 years. Through personal experience and observation he has learned what works versus what doesn’t, what inspires versus what demoralizes, and what builds a good working relationship versus what can damage trust beyond any chance of repair.

Come see what he has to say, and maybe you can save yourself and those that work with you the pain of some of the leadership mistakes he has made and some of the mistakes he has witnessed.
